ALFRED KIRKE FFRENCH (Lieutenant) 53rd The Shropshire Regiment (amalgamated into the King;s Own Shropshire Light Infantry) The conduct of this officer was highly praised by the whole of the Grenadier Company, which he was commanding at the taking of the Secundra Bagh, Lucknow, November 16th 1857, and he was elected to receive the Victoria Cross under Rule 13 of the Warrant. He was one of the first to enter the building. C. IRWIN (Private) 53rd The Shropshire Regiment (amalgamated into the King’s Own Shropshire Light Infantry) Elected by the Private soldiers of the regiment for his conspicuous bravery at the taking of the Secundra Bagh, Lucknow, November 16th 1857, when although severely wounded in the shoulder, he was one of the first of his regiment to enter the place under a terrific fire. KENNY (Private) 53rd The Shropshire Regiment (amalgamated into the King’s Own Shropshire Light Infantry) Elected by the private soldiers of his regiment for his gallant conduct and fearless bravery at the assault on the Secundra Bagh,Lucknow, on November 16th 1857, when in spite of a most heavy crossfire, he volunteered to bring up fresh ammunition to his company. CHARLES PYE (Sergeant Major, afterwards Ensign) 53rd The Shropshire Regiment (amalgamated into the King’s Own Shropshire Light Infantry) Elected by the non-commissioned officers of his regiment was in action, and particularly on November 17th 1857, at Lucknow, when he carried up ammunition to the mess house under terrific fire. |
